Kevin Collins

Managing Partner, Director of Development

Kevin Collins grew up in San Angelo and was a member of Bentwood Country Club's inaugural junior tennis program that began in 1978. Kevin played high school tennis for Central High School and collegiate tennis at Odessa Jr. College and Texas Tech University and competed on the ATP pro tour in 1987. He was a member of 5.5 National Championship team in 2006. Kevin has been USPTA Certified for over 30 years, and has coached over 25 State Champions and produced 60+ college bound scholarship tennis players, that represented 36 different colleges. Kevin is a member of the USTA Texas Executive Committee and The San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo Board of Directors. Kevin has served as the Managing Partner and Director of Development for Bentwood Country Club since 2006. Kevin currently manages all club operations and the 800 plus home housing development, overseeing all aspects of residential and commercial real estate development at Bentwood. He is married to Kim, and has a two children, Kanton and Katy, both of whom attended Texas State. Katy received a four year scholarship and competed on the women’s tennis team 

 

Susan Connally

Susan started working for Bentwood in October of 2013. She has over 20 year’s experience in the food industry.  Susan is married and has 5 children and 2 grand children.

 

Brad Fluitt, CGCS

Golf course superintendent

Growing up working on the grounds crew at a neighborhood country club, Brad Fluitt was destined to become a golf course superintendent. What was at first just a summer job for Brad, soon became a lifelong passion for the golf industry. To educate himself in this craft, Brad achieved certification through GCSAA. Only one in ten superintendents achieve the CGCS designation. During college Brad applied for an assistant’s position at BCC. He obtained and worked this position, for several years eventually becoming golf course superintendent. There he encountered a wealth of experience including tournament preparation, maintaining bentgrass and champion greens, and learning effective ways of managing and motivating staff. The Fluitt family currently resides in San Angelo as a family of three. Brad’s son is a sophomore at Angelo State University. Brad has been married to his wife Tammy for 22 years.

 

Brett Baylin, PGA

Head golf professional

Brett Baylin was born and raised in San Diego California where he started playing golf at the age of 10 with his mother and father. He grew up playing various courses around San Diego in Jr. Golf events but mostly got his start at Singing Hills Country Club now (Sycuan Resort). Brett continued to excel at golf and ultimately played for Valhalla High School and Cuyamaca College. Getting his start in the golf business at Carlton Oaks Country Club in Santee CA in 2005; Brett Started working in Outside Services and quickly moved his way up the ladder to eventually become Pro shop manager and Tournament Director. After obtaining his PGA (Professional Golfers’ Association) membership which he received in 2013, Brett left Carlton Oaks after 8 years to move into the private sector of the golf business. Relocating to Odessa, Texas to work for Odessa Country Club as an assistant Golf Professional for the next 2.5 years. From Odessa Brett moved to San Angelo in 2016 and has now been the Head Golf Professional for Bentwood Country Club for the past 2 years. He continues his passion for the game of golf through teaching, playing in tournaments, and running the daily operations of the golf course. In his free time he enjoys Hunting, Fishing, snowboarding and spending time with his girlfriend Whitney & their 3 dogs; Moose, Max & Heidi.

 

Courtney Nagel

director of tennis

Courtney grew up in the Bentwood Tennis Program under the instruction of Kevin Collins.  She was a top 5 ranked junior in Texas and nationally ranked throughout her junior career.  Courtney played college tennis at the University of New Mexico where she had one of the top 10 winning percentages in school history, was an Academic All-American, and was the NCAA Woman of the Year representing New Mexico in 2001.  Courtney came back to Bentwood after graduation is now the Director of Tennis and an investor in Bentwood Country Club, her home-away-from-home.  She's married to fellow New Mexico Lobo ski racer, Eric Nagel.  They have two children, Rewk and Sidney: one of whom is destined to play tennis!

 

Eva Freeman

fitness director

Played volleyball at ASU on scholarship. Graduated 1982 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology.  Married her husband, Mike Freeman 38 years ago in Snyder, Texas.  Owned and operated Power Shack Gym for 23 years. Worked as the Fitness Director at Golds Gym and Anytime Fitness before taking the position at Bentwood.   Competitive bodybuilder 1984 to 2001.  Have two children Chas and Colton.  Chas is a trainer and lives in Temple Texas where his wife, Lucinda is completing her education as a Physical Therapist, at Mary Hardin Baylor.  Colton is living in Houston, Texas.  He is the offensive line graduate assist while pursuing his Masters degree at the University of Houston.  Both boys received athletic scholarship in football.  Chas has played for ASU and Colton has played for University of Houston.  Mike is a certified peace officer through the Tom Green County Sheriffs office and works as a Bailiff for Judge Ben Nolan.  I have certification from NASM, Les Mills, and Group Fitness Instructor.  Hobbies include anything  physical, most sports, DIY projects, and reading

 

Bryce Zak

Assistant general manager 

Born and raised in San Angelo. Bryce has played baseball most his life at Central High School, Angelo State University, and with The Tampa Bay Rays Minor League system. Bryce has a Master’s degree in Coaching, Sport, Recreation, Fitness Administration from Angelo State University. He currently manages the Pool during the summer, is a Personal trainer here in the Fitness Center, and does administrative work under Kevin Collins. Bryce also keeps himself heavily involved in the youth baseball programs within the San Angelo area. When not working Bryce enjoys spending time with his wife Lexi, and time in the outdoors; Hunting and Fishing. 

 

Kristi McDonald

accountant/Membership

Kristi has been with Bentwood Country Club for over 20 years. Having began her time here in the Golf Shop, she has been a part of many different aspects of the club throughout the years. She is currently the Accounting/Membership Director and can be seen around the facility giving tours to prospective members, speaking with you on the phone as she takes your reservations and answers your questions about upcoming events and or monthly statements. She and her husband, Terry have spent most of their spare time traveling to the many sporting events for their three children, Kaitlyn, Collin and Morgan. They also enjoy camping and spending time with their grandson, Rhyker.

 

Desirea Senior

service director

Currently studying for a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology with plans to attain LCA in 2 years and work in trauma. She is raising an awesome soon to be 10 year old who competes in gymnastics and attends cubscouts. Managed a local bar for 6 years, and has been a bartender for 13 years. She has been with bentwood since 2013. Desirea considers her self as a fashion icon and a beauty mogul. When she is not working or taking classes she enjoys taking her son out of town for vacation. 

 

Matt Clark

Chef Matt is the executive Sous Chef with Bentwood Country Club.  In this role, he oversees and leads his team in all aspects of a professional kitchen.  Matt is a big believer in having a passion for food.  He is no stranger to working hard.  He gives credit to his mother and father for his work ethic.  Matt grew up in Big Lake, Texas.  A small rural community in West Texas.  Matt has worked under many culinary chefs and through hard work and perseverance he has learned the creative art of making quality food. He has opened 3 corporate restaurants and 2 privately owned restaurants from the ground up. In 2010 he worked as a Chef and Pastry Chef in Abilene at a local hotel. 

 

Ali Delafuente

Chef Ali started his career as a chef in 1999, he became a line cook and worked under Chef JR Contway at Bentwood Country Club, he then became the Sous Chef under Chef Mike O'Neil. After working at Bentwood Country Club he went and graduated from Le Cordon Bleu in Austin, Texas. While in Austin he worked for Nordstrom Bistro and helped open stores in Austin and San Antonio, Texas. In 2006 he became the Sous Chef at Alto Lakes in Ruidoso, New Mexico. In 2008 he moved back to San Angelo and became the Sous Chef at the River Terrace, under chef Earl Mulley. He then moved to Arlington, Texas in 2010 and became the Sous Chef at the Sanford House Bed and Breakfast restaurant, under Chef Nelda Gallerger. In 2013 he became the Executive Chef at Big Spring country club. He opened his first restaurant in 2014 called the Windmill City Café and Bakery in Sterling City, Texas. He has had several other restaurant openings: The 158 Café in Robert Lee Texas, Windmill Grill in Bronte, Texas, and Riverview Restaurant in San Angelo where I'm a minority owner .

 

Trevor Austin

Trevor grew up in a small town of Newkirk, Oklahoma where he began playing golf at the age of 5 with his father. He soon then fell in love with the game after watching his dad play in various tournaments at Ark City Country Club where they were members. He won 6 consecutive Junior Golf Championships there as a kid. Newkirk High School did not have a golf team because of the size but he continued to play every week with his dad. He graduated in 2011 from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelors Degree in Marketing. He got started in the golf industry in 2014 while attending the Golf Academy of America in Dallas, Texas. While living in Dallas he worked outside services for Las Colinas Country Club for about a year. Shortly after graduating Salutatorian from the golf academy, he then moved to West Texas and has been an Assistant Golf Professional at Bentwood Country Club since 2015. He spends most of his days off playing golf with the members. If he's not at the course he enjoys watching Oklahoma State athletics, going to concerts, and hanging out with his girlfriend Mickeala and step dog Kobe.

 

Garrett Wright

Garrett Wright started in the golf industry in 2010 after he graduated High School in Houston, Texas. Working his way up from Outside Services to Pro Shop Attendant, he quickly learned that he had a passion for golf. At the end of 2012 Garrett decided to turn his passion into a career and move to Dallas, Texas to attend the Golf Academy of America where he would start learning the Golf Business. At the end of 2013 Garrett started working at Las Colinas Country Club in Irving, Texas while finishing school. After Garrett graduated from school in 2014, he became an Assistant Golf Professional and started to learn more about the business. From teaching to merchandising Garrett learned a lot from his mentors at Las Colinas. At the end of 2015 Garrett received a job offer and moved to San Angelo to become an Assistant Golf Professional here at Bentwood Country Club. When Garrett is not at work or golfing you can find him at home with his wife Laila and their dog Jesse. As an Eagle Scout, Garrett has always enjoyed the Outdoors. Whether its hiking or camping with friends, he is always doing something outside.

 

Kaysie Smashey

Head Tennis Pro

Kaysie Smashey grew up in El Paso, Texas where she attended Franklin High School, winning three 5A Texas State Champion (2 Doubles, 1 Singles), five national doubles championships, and being ranked as high as #1 in doubles and #13 in singles in the United States. She received the Sunturian Award for the best athlete in El Paso in 1998. Kaysie earned a full athletic scholarship to play tennis at University of Texas at Austin from 1998-2002, was an Academic All-American, and earned a Bachelor degree in Business Administration, specializing in Marketing. Following college, Kaysie was ranked as high as #145 in world in doubles on WTA tour, winning four (4) Professional (ITF) Doubles Titles, 12 Doubles Finalist, 3 Singles Semi-finalist, and played World Team Tennis for the Springfield Lasers 2005 and 2006. Since retiring from the tour, Kaysie is the Head Pro at Bentwood Country Club since 2006, USPTA Certified, Professional 1 and won seven more national titles in doubles and singles finalist in the last few years. In 2017, she was ranked #1 in doubles and #2 singles in the USA for her age group and, in 2016 & 2017, she was chosen to represent the USA in Croatia and South Africa in the Lenglen Cup against the rest of the world. In May 2017, She was inducted in the El Paso Hall of Fame. Kaysie enjoys teaching children from five years old, to nationally ranked juniors, to all levels of adults!

 

Zack Johnson

assistant Tennis Pro

 Zack was a varsity standout at Central High School, where he reached as high as top 10 in Texas and continued on to compete on the A&M club team that competed on the national level. He has worked at Bentwood for several years in different departments and has become an assistant pro in the summer of 2015. Zack is USPTA certified and teaches many of the junior groups and has a tricky and massive backhand passing shot!
